The Multiscale Immune System Modeling (MISM) Center is supported by a collaborative research ecosystem that spans Duke University, Duke Health, Duke Research and Discovery at Research Triangle Park, The Renaissance Computing Institute, North Carolina State University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Michigan, the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This multidisciplinary network brings together experts in immunology, computational biology, machine learning, clinical research, biostatistics, engineering, and data science to advance next-generation models of the human immune system.
MISM investigators have access to state-of-the-art laboratory, computational, and clinical research resources that support the full spectrum of systems immunology research. These include advanced shared technology cores for genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, immune profiling, single-cell analysis, spatial biology, high-content imaging, and biomarker discovery. MISM researchers also leverage extensive clinical and population-scale data resources, enabling model development and validation using diverse molecular, clinical, imaging, and electronic health record datasets.
The Center's computational infrastructure includes high-performance computing systems, secure cloud and protected data environments, large-scale data storage, and specialized resources for artificial intelligence, machine learning, network modeling, and simulation. These capabilities support the development, validation, and dissemination of computational models, software tools, and reproducible analytical workflows.
MISM operates within an integrated framework that combines scientific collaboration, software engineering, data sharing, education, and workforce development. Through close partnerships with Duke's Center for Human Systems Immunology, Duke Human Vaccine Institute, Duke Center for AIDS Research, Duke Cancer Institute, and other institutional programs, the Center provides an exceptional environment for collaborative discovery, training, and innovation at the intersection of immunology, computation, and translational medicine.
