Co-Investigator, Research Project 2, MISM
Asst. Professor in Microbiology & Immunology, UMICH
Elliott SoRelle, PhD, Co-Investigator, is an Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School. He leads a research program focused on understanding how Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) interacts with the human host to drive disease, seeking to alleviate a significant public health burden due to EBV’s association with cancers and autoimmune disorders.
Dr. Sorelle’s laboratory investigates disease–relevant EBV–host dynamics using experimentally tractable infection models alongside single-cell technologies (scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq), flow cytometry, microscopy, and spatial biology. In collaboration with clinicians at the University of Michigan and beyond, his team characterizes the genome-wide landscapes of EBV-associated tumors and their microenvironments. Their work advances the understanding of fundamental host–virus regulatory mechanisms and informs the development of improved therapies for EBV-associated diseases. Dr. SoRelle serves as Co-Investigator for MISM Research Project 2.
