MISM Awarded Administrative Supplement for Blueprint Project

The Multiscale Immune System Modeling (MISM) Center of Excellence has been awarded an NIH/NIAID administrative supplement to support the Blueprint Project. This collaborative effort will help researchers develop and share computational models that are easier to use across studies, research teams, and software platforms in infectious and immune-mediated disease research.

Experimental systems such as tissue explants and organ-on-a-chip platforms can now generate detailed data on how human tissues respond to infection. But turning that data into models other researchers can readily run, compare, and build on remains difficult. In many cases, models are developed within a single software environment, which can make sharing and reuse harder than it should be.

The Blueprint Project aims to make that process more practical. The team will develop a common framework to describe models in a way that works across different simulation platforms. The project’s broader goal is to improve reproducibility, support collaboration, and create advanced modeling tools easier for researchers to use.

The project’s first use case will focus on an influenza lung explant model. This will give the team a concrete way to develop and test the framework while creating resources to support future studies, training, and broader community use.
